Scarecrow Car Show - Madison, MS

Saturday October 28, 2006

The 2006 Scarecrow Car Show was a great success!.
The Classic Cruisers had 211 participants showing their vehicles, which is an outstanding turnout!
The Methodist Children Homes will surely take home a great allocation of funds from this event.
Several of our members were showing their cars too!
Dan Perry, Tom Phillips, Mike Martin, Brian and Kelly Herring and Tim Hollis were all showing off their beautiful corvettes! Jimmy Jones entered his Nova, and I took our Toyota MR2 Spyder.
It was a nice turn out from our club for an un-official showing.
Several of our members visited us too! The ones we visited with were Tommy Ladner, Allen Cothern, Al & Cindy Kabelac, Linda Muha, Paul and Jean Jones, Kirby Wilson and his brother, and Doug Henslee.
Jerry Ainsworth came out in full recruiting force. He and I both talked with as many of the corvette owners that we could find with their cars!

A SPECIAL NOTE TO ALL
We lost one of our founding club members David Coward, Friday March 3, 2006

David Coward and Tommy Ladner in Tupelo, MS on a club cruise.

David Coward was always in the middle of everything.
Just check out the photos!

Cruisin the Pearl - Poker Run - April 2005

David Coward
one of the founding members of the
Mississippi Corvette Club
passed away on
Friday, March 3, 2006.

Obituary in the Clarion Ledger:

David E. Coward - Brandon

David E. Coward, 53, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Monday at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with burial in Ludlow Cemetery.

Mr. Coward was a life long resident of Rankin County. He was a member of Fannin Baptist Church. David was the Assistant Fire Chief of Lake Harbor Fire Department for 28 years. He was a member of the Corvette Club. Mr. Coward was preceded in death by his father, Colon Coward in 1983.

He is survived by his daughters, Lindsey Coward Haas and Warren of Richland and Rebecca Coward of Brandon; mother, Zonzia Coward of Ludlow; sisters, Caresse Slater of Ludlow, Lissa Jones of Brandon and Coco Patrick of Ludlow; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to:
Lake Harbor Vol. Fire Dept.
3990 Hwy 43
Brandon, MS 39047.

David Coward and his nephew Justin Jones, son of member Jimmy Jones, attended our monthly meeting at Jakes Seafood Grill Thursday night March 2nd. They both rode to the meeting on their Harley Davison Motorcycles. It was a great evening for a motorcycle ride.

David sold 50/50 tickets during the meeting, to raise money for our clubs Corvette Museum Brick initiative.
David was always the last to leave the meetings, as he always waited for Debbie Henry and I to get out to our cars afterwards. He often helped us load up our corvettes with meeting material. He always felt that he need to take care of us, as at most of our meeting our husbands are out of town.

After this meeting, David and Justin were outside waiting, along with Linda Muha. We all said our last good-byes.

David and Justin left the meeting traveling home on North Shore Parkway. 4 Miles down the road, their motorcycles collided with a vehicle pulling into the Fox Bay Subdivision.

Justin was rushed to Baptist Hospital and David was rushed to CMMC. At some point early Friday morning, David was moved to UMC. David died later that morning from complications of injuries recieved during the accident.

We all feel a deep sadness for losing David, but we need to reflect a minute and recall the personality of David. He would want us to celebrate his life and celebrate it through our corvettes! He loved the club and all of it's members.

As a memorial to David Coward and his love and dedication for the Mississippi Corvette Club, we will add a brick memorial at the National Corvette Museum. It will be installed below the Mississippi Corvette club brick. We are currently raising funds for our club brick, and will add the funding initiative to include this memorial for David Coward.

Please keep these families in your prayers!
